The George at Burpham Newsletter

"By the locals, of the locals,
for the locals . . . and a very
 warm welcome to everyone!"

ugust and September are particularly hectic in Sussex
since a number of notable local festivals take place here. Whereas these provide some excellent excuses to call into
The George at Burpham for refreshment, they also mean that we could be particularly busy in the height of those activities,
so forward planning is advised and early booking is essential.

Arundel Festival

rom 20th – 29th August 2016 the Arundel Festival provides ten days of the best music, theatre, art and comedy, in the most attractive of settings.
This annual event, organised by a great team of volunteers, traditionally offers
a packed programme of events including . . .
Arundel Festival Gallery Trail
Shakespeare in the
   Collector Earl's Garden
Arundel Festival Theatre Trail
Arundel 10 kilometre Run
Plus many more music, arts
and drama events throughout the Festival, including street performances and music
in the square, with firework displays to end the festival.
To complement your Shakespearian soirée, enjoy a meal at The George at Burpham straight after. Measure for measure, we're sure the meal will be
as you like it and for your Festival experience, well - all's well that ends well.

Arundel Castle Medieval Tournament

uring the first two days of the Arundel Festival, the Arundel Castle Medieval Tournament brings Knights, Men-at-Arms and Archers of Raven Tor together in a 15th Century Tournament over the weekend of 20th - 21st August. With competitors using a variety of weapons, the free-style fighting of the combatants will be the nearest recreation of tournament combat seen outside of the 15th Century. With a story teller, falconry and archery displays
and a tented encampment, there is certainly plenty to see and experience for the whole family over the weekend.
How better to end the perfect day out by getting away from the noise and melee
of Arundel by walking or driving into the countryside to The George at Burpham, for a refreshing drink and a delightful traditional pub meal in gorgeous surroundings? You can leave your armour, steed and squire in the car park.

Goodwood Revival

ust up the road from Arundel at Goodwood House, the world’s largest historic motor racing and vintage culture festival, Goodwood Revival, takes place on September 9th-11th. The event brings Goodwood Motor Circuit’s glory days as an active race track from 1948-66, back to life in a dramatic way.
A host of stars from the world of
motorsport and entertainment attend each year, to savour the romance and glamour of motor racing as it used to be.
The Revival is the only historic race meeting to be staged entirely in period dress and is a return to the halcyon days of Goodwood as the spiritual home of British motor racing.
Make a pit stop to refuel here
at The George at Burpham . . . period dress isn't mandatory!

Sports and Events

little further afield, in Rio de Janeiro, the Olympics take place bewteen 5th and 21st of August, followed closely by the Paralympics from 7th to18th of September.
If Team GB are involved, we will show some of the bigger events and special moments on our drop-down screen (sound also dropped down discretely).
Planning Ahead . . .
Booking a table can become essential at popular times and when events, such as shown above (and obvious times such as Bank Holidays) mean that demand is high. So why not consider coming a little earlier or later than usual?
