The George at Burpham Newsletter

"By the locals, of the locals,
for the locals . . . and a very
warm welcome to everyone!"

nce more we will be marking the start of our truly festive season on Monday 5th December by lighting up the square in Burpham village with our gigantic Christmas tree - like a beacon, so Santa Claus should have no difficulty finding us again this year. Come and enjoy the atmosphere inside and outside the pub, and our also our Christmas Party menu - see details below.

Festive Menus
Start off your own festive season in style by booking a party table and enjoying our Christmas Party Menu, available all December (excl. Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve). This 2 or 3-course menu can be viewed below, as can our romantic menu for New Year’s Eve, a 6-course extravaganza, which includes a glass of Prosecco at the Chimes. It's a bit unfair to tease you with this, since the evening is already fully booked!

Boxing Day

Another annual ‘tradition’ is the visiting of the Sompting Village Morris and the Sompting Tipteerers, who have been presenting their traditional street play for over 30 years around Sussex and whose Morris dancing livens the square outside the George from 1pm on Boxing Day.

We will be providing an outside bar offering ‘Mulled Cyder’, three kegs of local bitter and ‘Greyhound’ Stout - so there will be lots of Christmas spirit about. Parking will be very limited so we suggest parking further afield and walking (or dancing) into the village, building up a good thirst on the way.

Please note that although we are fully booked on Boxing Day for 'sit-down' meals, we will be providing hot outdoor 'snack food' - soup and curry - from around noon until 5pm (or until it's all gone) - and there's no need to book!

Detox Menu

To offset the excesses which you might have indulged in over Christmas and New Year’s Eve, we offer our annual absurdly healthy ‘Detox Menu’ from the start of January, so please look out for this when available on our website’s food page.

No, not the erection of our Christmas tree - but our regular bout of TLC to the pub’s interior - will take place between Monday 9th and Friday
13th January, opening on that Friday evening once again. We plan to make George fresh, welcoming and ready
for another year’s warm hospitality.

Beat the Doldrums!

And so into 2017, the Winter weather and the doldrums which may follow your Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations. But they don’t have to end - come along during January to celebrate fine drink and great food, and keep that festive cheer alive for a little longer!
